Large-scale blocks of rustic tumbled slate set off the new fireplace insert, while mellow fir millwork creates an eye-pleasing focal point for the whole wall. The common issue of integrating the fireplace and TV aesthetically was solved with sliding wood panels.  When open, they flank the flat panel TV; closed, they conceal the TV and reveal adjacent display shelves.

New distressed hickory floors replaced carpeting throughout the main living areas and up the stairs.

The stair area gained due stature as an entry way focal point with new cherry wood balusters, hand rail and newel post, and the removal of a tall header above that enclosed the area.

Before: Part of a whole house make-over, this fireplace had a bulky raised hearth and smaller fire box than the home owners wanted. The adjacent entry stairwell was dark and ready for a redo.
