From Vanilla to Butterscotch

After:

Transformed Fireplace

Vanilla-white fireplace tiles were replaced with golden-rusty slate, color enhanced for richness.  Tiles were hand selected and set to achieve a pleasing balance of color & pattern across the face of the surround.   The formerly bright brass firebox accent was stripped of its finish, giving it a natural patina.  A new wooden mantel unifies the room's existing woodwork.

 After:

Finished Staircase

Trading out oatmeal-colored carpets for beautiful wood floors added instant impact to the main living area and stairs.

 After:

Entryway redone

Muted terra cotta and taupe give warmth to the walls and enhance the entrance.

A deeper spice tone on the entry door pulls from the new slate tile floor, to give subtle focus. Reselected ceiling light and floor registers complete the update.

Maughan Design provided color consultation, material selections, construction documents, specification binders, and all products and remodeling services for this project.

Before: Although not outdated, the decorative elements used in this home were too generic and lacking in warmth, and the traditional style mantel seemed out of context.
