Fantastic in Pink

After:

Transformed tiled kitchen

This homeowner's fondness for the warmth of pink and the freshness of blue presented a welcome design challenge, as the color balance in such a combination must be carefully considered.

The solution was found in containing the bolder pink to the backsplash walls for dramatic impact, combining subtler blues on other walls and counter surfaces, and infusing an airy warmth throughout with buttercream cabinetry and a steel-blue glaze.

Practical enhancements include an L shaped island for "spread out" room and a project & filing "catch-all" cabinet to control clutter. A faux beam with special insulation conceals plumbing from areas above, allowing the formerly low ceiling to be raised.

Detail of Storage Space

In a unifying nod to the home's collection of vividly colored artwork, a custom glass mosaic mural was created from the color-enhancement of a favorite photograph, becoming both homeowners' favorite feature.

Maughan Design provided space planning, color consultation, material selections, construction documents, specification binders, and all products and remodeling services for this project.

Before: This dated kitchen with its U-shaped layout was short on storage and lacked the large island the client desired.
